Assistant Manager - Leisure
Salary up to £29,952 + Bonus after qualification period
Due to recent internal promotions, GLL is looking for a number of Assistant Managers for our 'Better’ leisure centres across South London. This region encompasses some of our most iconic facilities and has a turnover of £77 million, making it the ideal base for ambitious managers to further their career.
Each of the region's leisure centres hosts at least 3,000 members and with sales targets of up to 800 heads per month, customer retention and growth strategies are key priorities for us right now. As a social enterprise and a not-for-profit organisation, we’re not just about making money, we want our facilities to be used by everyone in the community - providing a space to meet and improve lifestyles. However, to keep these facilities in the best condition and to keep attracting new customers, improving our sales, retention and health and fitness offering is key.
You’ll be a commercially-minded and experienced active leisure manager. You’ll know how to keep our existing customers engaged and energised and how to attract new members. Attention to detail and an analytical mind will help you to understand sales performance and further drive it within your team. You’ll thrive on variety and will be just as comfortable motivating our sales and customer service staff as you will in managing Fitness Instructors. Unfazed by the size and scope of our facilities, you could be overseeing the success of anything from a state-of-the art gym used by athletes, to a community fitness space or multi-usage sports hall.
Importantly, you’ll be completely aware of the differing needs of our customer base. You’ll be interested in researching customer feedback, local competition and the communities that we serve, all with the view to providing continual service improvements.
It’ll be up to you, with the support of your General Manager, to take this information and disseminate it to your team so that every member of your health & fitness and sales team know what’s expected of them and have the tools and knowledge to act on it.
Able to think on your feet, you’ll also confidently respond to all sorts of issues that arise in a busy centre - this could be anything from cleanliness to providing sales reports. Planning and communication skills will be vital too, as you build relationships with contractors, colleagues and communities.
We’re also looking for a resilient Assistant Managers with a leisure degree or equivalent experience, First Aid at Work, Level 2 Fitness Instructor, Sales Experience, Reps knowledge of leisure operations and a track record of managing in a busy wet/dry leisure centre.
