What is a Performance Lifestyle Advisor?
The objective of a performance lifestyle advisor is to work closely with both athletes and coaches in order to minimise concerns in regards to issues that may compromise their performance in Sport.
-Advising athletes on goal setting
-Helping them cope with injuries
-Giving advice on time-management and planning
-Assisting with difficult decisions that need to be made in an athlete’s life
-Nutritional and Dietary advice
-Helps sportsman if they need to relocate
-Support athlete wellbeing
-Helping athletes find career pathways after Sport.
What qualifications are needed to become a Performance Lifestyle Advisor?
A degree in a Sport related degree, preferably Sport Management/ Sport and Exercise Science.
Experience in working with high-performance athletes.
Further experience in working with clients through coaching/ management would be desirable.
What Skills/ Experience is needed to become a Performance Lifestyle Advisor?
In order to be effective in this role you must have specific qualities:
-An understanding of the needs of a high performance athlete/ coach in a pressured environment.
-A basic understanding of sport psychology.
-Goal setting knowledge.
-Basic nutrition and dietary knowledge.
-Excellent communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
What Salary can I expect?
Dependant on employer, although known to be between £25,000- £30,000 a year on average.

With experience you can go from working with local/ young athletes, right to the very top, with Olympians and Professional Sportsman.
What are the best things about being a Performance Lifestyle Advisor?
As a Performance Lifestyle advisor you will get the opportunity to work with Elite Athletes. The work will be very fulfilling as your work will be a large factor in people achieving their dreams.
What are the Drawbacks?
You will be working with people who are often stressed and don’t want to be at the advisor meetings. Further, you may have to deal with athletes who have not been selected for Squads etc. which might be upsetting.
